Roly Poly
Traditional Rhyme/Adapted Suggested Activity
Roly poly, roly poly, up, up, up. Roll your hands, reach up with your hands, clap your hands (change the word "tap" to "clap"), and lay your hands in your lap – all while you speak the fun Roly Poly rhyme.
Roly poly, roly poly, out, out, out. Next, use a pair of rhythm sticks and do the same thing, this time tapping the sticks on the third line.
Roly poly, roly poly, tap, tap, tap, Finally, start the rhyme slowly. Then speak it and do the motions a little faster. And then very quickly! Could you do it? Now teach the rhyme to someone else! Can you teach your friend how to do Roly Poly with just her thumbs? How about with her feet?
Roly poly, roly poly, lay them in your lap.

The children laughed and laughed and laughed.

That the merry-go-round collapsed.

Ring Around the Rosey
Traditional Singing Game/Adapted Suggested Activity
Ring around the rosey,
A pocket full of posies.
Ashes, ashes,
We all fall down.
Enjoy this traditional singing circle
game. Hold hands in a circle and
walk as you sing the first verse,
falling down where the song says to.
Ring around you.
Ring around me.
Everybody jumps up
When we count to three.
One … two … three!
Then, while down on the ground,
speak the second verse. Point
outward on the word "you;" point
to yourself on the word "me;" and
jump up and repeat the activity after
counting to three!
Can you make up another spoken
rhyme to use with this song?

Looby Loo

Here we go looby loo,
Here we go looby light,
Here we go looby loo,
All on a Saturday night.

I give my hands a shake, shake, shake,
And turn myself about. Oh….
