Getting ready (or is it dawdling?) for school

If your child is late, rushed, or stressed, it’s almost impossible for him to stay calm and focused on getting ready for school. A stressed child simply shuts down and he can’t do what he’s capable of doing. Simple rituals can provide a sense of security in the morning.

Music can help establish a routine that can begin every day with a song, and make mornings go more smoothly.

Make up a wake-up song

Next time your child plays with his favorite stuffed animals encourage him to make up a wake-up song .and teach it to you.  The next morning, you and his stuffed friend can wake him with a song.

Music as a motivator

Beat the music.  Put on a favorite CD and challenge your child to put on all their clothes by the time the song(s) ends.  This works for brushing teeth, putting on shoes, even taking a quick morning bath!
